Classic Courts

Suede Platform Pumps, MiuMiu at (£320)
Suede Platform Pumps, MiuMiu at (£340)

I went into Le Bon Marche in Paris the other day, and although I love shoes, a lot, rarely is it that I find a pair of classic heels that take my fancy. I always think that if I am going to spend money on something, it should be original, distinctive, have the 'Wow' factor, and something Primark won't copy and have in their stores the following week.

However, these MiuMiu Suede Platforms I did fall in love with. And perhaps the reason they are so classic, chic and smart is exactly the reason high street retailers en masse won't copy them? Not only are they a classic court shoe and would last for seasons/ years to come, they remain current with their platform, their height and shape of the heel, as well as the square toe. To add to the list, they also come in the most amazing array of colours, from turquoise to aubergine to navy.

Brights Advance

Sneaky Peak into what's in store for Spring/ Summer 2011.... COLOURS / NEONS / BRIGHTS!

The skies are thick with snow and it's dark by 5pm so I thought a bit of colour is exactly the remedy. These Dior shoes designed by Galliano are definitely original, inspiring and full of colour. Alongside this collection were also a few pairs of boots which is unusual to see in a Spring/Summer collection, but they work well, and taking into account an average British Summer, they will be needed!

Whicker heel... multi - coloured stitching... defined toe cap... laces from the toe up the ankle... plaited - platform... buckles.. suede.... leather...  Thank you Galliano!!!

Attwood for Colette

Platform suede, python and metal boots, Brian Attwood at Colette (£1697.57)

A little Brian Attwood for Colette kick to get you through to the weekend...

Rarely less than absolutely packed, Colette is a Parisian concept store located in the elite fashion district of Rue Saint-Honore. The go-to store for unique and original items for both men and women. Whether it's a one-off rubber iPhone you are after for just under €2000, or a pair of Prisim "London" sunglasses for €280 (a personal fave), they have it and you will be the only one with it.

This pair of Attwood python boots are another fave... the combination of the python skin and the black suede, contrasted with the most beautiful gold metal embroidery have created one incredible pair of one-off boots.

Snow Blues

I was wandering the streets of Paris this morning with the second blast of thick snow we have had tumbling down, in what I considered to be my 'Winter Boots'. My trusty brown leather Kurt Geiger biker boots have done me incredibly well - 2 years along the line, re-soled about 5 times, waterproof sprayed twice, polished once, look almost as good as when I bought them (debatable, maybe), and I thought they would get me through another Winter perfectly.

Day one of wearing them and I get near to frost bite- you could almost wring them out with water and I felt as though I was walking barefoot in slushy snow. Note to self: use the waterproof spray.

As much as I didn't enjoy this unfortunate few hours of very cold and wet feet, it made me think of a basic, but vital checklist to go by when buying winter boots:

1. Warm
2. Waterproof
3. Comfortable
4. Good sole for grip and insulation

Although all of the above may seem obvious, it got me to thinking about my shoe and boot collection. I admit I perhaps have a few too many pairs of footwear, but NONE of them adhere to all of the above... I have therefore carefully selected a few pairs which do, and will take you blissfully through this freezing weather.

Orca, Pied a Terre (£135 from £165)
Park P, Pied a Terre (£175 from £225) Also available in Black
Andrea Suede Fold Over Ankle Lace Up Boots, Topshop (£65)
Marshall Fur Biker Boots, Topshop (£36)

Nike Royalties a la Tweed

Nike Air Royalty Mid's have been seen in a multitude of colour ways and fabrics, but Harris Tweed is a first.

A friend sent me this pair the other day and anyone who knows me well, knows that I am a huge fan of high-tops. Although I like their unique-ness, the subtlety of the tick, the camouflaged laces, the contrast between the brown leather and the tweed (alright, so quite a lot), I just can't make my mind up about them. I think I would have to see them on to really decide, but they are definitely original, and in my books, originality gets you a long way.

Numero 3... Shoes with a tagline

Dax, Georgina Goodman (£695)
Otis, Georgina Goodman (£530)

My third, but by no means least, favourite shoe designer is Georgina Goodman. Goodman's philosophy is that each pair is "Made in Love"- which goes alongside a seasonal quote of inspiration- for Autumn/ Winter 2010, it's "There's no down without up". I am a big one for little quotes and sayings- although some people may think it's a little "deep", I love them.

Alongside her mainline range, she offers a bespoke service where consumers can go to the Bond Street store and liaise with Goodman about fabrics, colours and heel heights in order to create perfection. Her signature stripy soles have graced the red carpet, featured in endless glossys and are up there alongside the Charlotte Olympia's and Kirkwood's of this world... they have definitely won me over and here are 2 of my favourite pairs from this season's collection.

Buckle Street

Street Style- photo taken outside the Grand Palais
Mid Calf Slouch Boots, River Island (£84.99)
Sherling-lined Pirate Boots, Vivienne Westwood (£480)

Dollie Over the Knee Buckle Boots, Topshop (£95)

I haven't done a bit of street style for a while, although I took this photo back in September at Paris Fashion Week, this style is all over the place at the moment. What I love is the colour- navy, the contrast- suede vs leather and the style- over the knee. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a pair which ticks all three of these boxes, but here are a few similar pairs which still capture me!

Kirkwood Glitters

Nicholas Kirkwood

Movember is over and so guys, shave those 'tashs' off!

What other way to kick off December and move into the party season than with these killer heels by the one and only, Nicholas Kirkwood. The subtlety of the metallic python skin contrasted with the black glitter 'podium' platform and 5inch heel really is something to die for. Bring on the Christmas celebrations, I say!
