Kirkwood for Rodarte, Autumn/ Winter 2011/12
Nicholas Kirkwood is one of my favourite British shoe designers, his iconic, distinctive architectural shapes and innovations have won him numerous awards from Conde Nast to Vogue. He has collaborated with Swarovski, Ghost, John Rocha and Erdem as well as gaining the role of accessories designer for Pollini. One fashion house he has continued to design for though, is Rodarte.
The Rodarte / Kirkwood collaboration kicked off in Spring / Summer 2009 and since, his shoes have been storming the Rodarte runways. Each season appears to get better and better, my favourite have to be between this current season's with the intricately carved wood heels or next season's combination of beading and cow hide.
Whether its chains and leather bondage, metal screws and dripping wax effects, or most recently, carved wood and embroidery, Kirkwood is definitely experimental, creating avant-garde pieces that dominate the catwalks.
