New to the Game

If you haven't already heard about him, let me introduce you to Raphael Young.

Although he was propelled to success by the help of his uncle, (Yves Saint Laurent's Shoe Studio Creator of the 50s, Alexandre Narcy), his name has only recently hit the shoe scene by its own accord. Launching his own label in 2007, Young now designs shoes for the likes of Lady Gaga and Rhianna, and in September of last year he opened his first store in the chic 1er arrondissement of Paris.

His 'education' was from one of the best, Narcy, and at just 14 he designed and made his first pair of shoes. Today he cuts, stitches and carves every last detail of each pair which has earnt him the title of a "true artisan".

I see influences of Nicholas Kirkwood, Prada, McQueen and Alexander Wang, yet his shoes are still incredibly unique and beautifully created. Designing for both women and men (with a wicked selection of high tops) and looking at the current season as well as ahead to Autumn / Winter 2011, the collections are amazing.

He might just be moving his way into my "Goodman, Kirkwood and Olympia" category (my favourite shoe designers!).
